How the tip is calculated
Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Per person = total ÷ number of people. For example, a $84 bill with an 18% tip is $15.12 tip, $99.12 total, or $33.04 each for three people.
Typical tipping rates
In the US 15–20% is standard for table service. In the UK and much of Europe 10–12.5% is common and service may already be included on the bill — check before tipping twice.
